ISAF Women’s Match Racing World Championships - Nomination re-opens

After a meeting of the ISA Board of Directors where the decision was made to re-open the nomination process, the ISA is seeking requests for an invitation to compete in the ISAF Women’s Match Racing World Championships 2014 which will be held for the first time in Ireland this year in the waters of Cork Harbour in June.

Up to 16 skippers will be invited, 14 will be invited using the ISAF Women’s Match Racing Ranking list plus the defending World Champion, Tamara Echegoyan (ESP) who is also the Olympic Gold Medallist. Ireland, as host nation, receives a wildcard invitation not connected with the ranking list. This is nominated by the ISA, and agreed with ISAF, and will be followed by an invitation from the organising authority Royal Cork Yacht Club. Click here for the Bid Form.

Applications must be received by 1700hrs on Friday 14th March 2014.

The purpose of this request to Irish Women Match Racing skippers is to bring this opportunity to prospective teams to plan a campaign to compete in this World Championships on home waters.

The event started in Genoa in 1999 and the history is described here.

This World Championship is also the first leg of the Women’s International Match Racing Series and skippers are invited also to apply directly to other venues through the Women’s International Match Racing Association WIMRA. Event ISA Website

Three in a row for Price at the Club Marine NSW Youth Match Racing
Harry joins Evan Walker and Jay Griffin, two other CYCA Youth Sailing Academy graduates who won the event three times Over the 6-7th August, the CYCA Youth Sailing Academy hosted the Championship where only half the regatta format was completed as the winter weekend was plagued with the ever familiar light, variable winds that come at this time of the year.

Tough conditions greet 9 teams at Club Marine NSW Youth Match Racing
This year’s championship marks the 13th consecutive year this regatta has been supported by Club Marine. The Race Committee, led by Denis Thompson were commended on their efforts to get racing underway with the breeze shifting more than 120 degrees several times throughout the day as rain squalls rolled in over the city of Sydney.

Energa Sopot Match Race- Rast ready for uphill battle with specialists
Reigning Melges 24 World Champion Chris Rast from Switzerland is competing at his second M32 regatta of the year. One of those top guys will be the young Sam Gilmour, another 49er sailor but who also has the benefit of a strong match racing background. The young sailor from Perth, Western Australia, put in a strong performance at the $1 million World Championship Finals in Sweden earlier this month.

50th Governor's Cup International Junior Match Racing continues
The winds were light when racing started at noon. The temperature was in the high 80’s for most of the day. Racing resumed on another beautiful day in Southern California. The twelve teams were towed out to the race course by the Race Committee boat with PRO (Principal Race Officer) Don Becker and his support team aboard.
