2014 ISAF Sailing World Cup Mallorca - While the first three days of racing featured inconsistent breezes across all course areas of ISAF Sailing World Cup Mallorca, Day 4 delivered wind speeds over 25 knots, and swells in excess of 8 feet. The challenging conditions tested not only sailors, but race officials as well, and in the end the 470 fleets and the non-gold 49er divisions were stranded on the beach, unable to complete races due to the rough sea state.

Friday (Day 5) will be the final day of racing for the full field of competitors before medal races begin on Saturday. Three races are planned for all classes except for the Finn, where the race committee will aim for two. US 470 Stu McNay (Providence, R.I.) and David Hughes (Miami, Fla.) need to advance three spots and nine points to gain admission to the medal race, which is reserved for the top 10 in each class.

US women's 470 Annie Haeger (East Troy, Wisc.) and Briana Provancha (San Diego, Calif.) currently sit in sixth place and will try to push up the leaderboard. Finn athlete Caleb Paine (San Diego, Calif.) is just one spot and two points shy of a medal race berth entering Day 5. The Nacra 17 team of Sarah Newberry (Miami, Fla.) and John Casey (Longwood, Fla.) entered the top 15 after a 10th place finish in conditions that saw many other top multihull teams struggle.

Day 4 was also notable for the arrival of an imposing and instantly recognizable symbol of America's global maritime presence, as the 1,092 ft. long United States Navy aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman made a port visit to Palma de Mallorca.
