ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year - Mat Belcher

by Mat Belcher & Will Ryan | Olympic Sailing on 15 Nov 2013
Matt Belcher and coach Victor Kovalenko (AUS) - 2013 Rolex ISAF World Sailor of the Year, Oman Rolex/ Kurt Arrigo http://www.regattanews.com
On Tuesday evening as part of the ISAF Conference in Oman, Mat was announced 'ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year'! Although we have not competed in any events of late it has been as busy as ever!

After having been nominated for this highest honour on two previous occasions but having to leave empty-handed, this makes Mat only the nd Australian ever to win the award - due recognition for his 17-straight-regatta winning streak.

It has not stopped there, however, as last night continuing on the launch of the Australian Institute of Sports Campaign of World Champions to Worlds Best our team was awarded 'AIS Team of the Year for 2013'.

After a short break to attend all these ceremonies we are resuming on-water training early next week in Sydney and looking forward to competing again at Sail Melbourne in a few weeks time.

We just wanted to thank you all for your support and kind words over the past few days. A special thank you - as always - to our sponsors and supporters. We would not be here without you
