Here comes Summer

appliancesonline & pure blonde downwind - 18ft Skiffs: Hot Fleet for Australian 18s Season 2012 Frank Quealey /Australian 18 Footers League http://www.18footers.com.au
While last Friday’s freezing weather might make sailors think otherwise, the Australian Summer is rushing towards us.

The 18 footers are the first swallows and the 2012-2013 Australian 18ft Skiff Season got underway on Sydney Harbour yesterday, today when the Australian 18 Footers League conducted Race 1 of the 8-race 3-Buoys Challenge series.

The Middle Harbour Short Ocean Race series, will as usual indicate which of the offshore boats have their campaigns sorted by end November.

The UON SB20 World Championships 2012, the first SB20 Worlds in Australia get underway from Friday 14th December at Hamilton Island. It will be the wet season and it will certainly be interesting to see how the weather pans out.

There are already sixty entries for the 2012 Rolex Sydney Hobart Race, with an interesting sprinkle of international entries already. The Sail-World coverage will be 24x7 as always, with our newsletter series about to start.

The Pittwater Coffs Harbour Race is expected to have a larger fleet than in recent years and our coverage of this New Year classic will be more intense than in recent years.

Then it’s the Festival of Sails incorporating the Audi IRC Australian titles…

Of course inside this time frame there are a host of dinghy events, state and national titles and more.

Would a sailor be anywhere else come December and January?
