International Sailing Training Centre, the H2O Sports Academy Australia hosted a two week training camp for two Oceanic Laser Teams this month.

Five Laser sailors and a coach from Papa New Guinea and three sailors from the Cook Islands trained hard for two weeks with H2O Laser Coach, Laura Baldwin, a British Olympic Sailor and Australian Olympic Team, London 2012, Sailing Coach.

Personal trainer, Mell Alessio of Platinum Body Fitness, trained the sailors physically hard each morning on the Point Wolstoncroft Sport and Recreation Centre oval.

'This camp has been beyond incredible for us!' explained PNG sailor, Rose-Lee Numa. 'We have learn so much, I didn't think it possible to know so much about the sport!' Rose continued, 'Laura is a powerful motivational speaker! I felt such a buzz from her presentations and now have a firm goal and energy to win GOLD in the Pacific Games in my home Country this July'

Taua Elise form the Cook Islands said, 'I can't wait to come back! I wish we could stay here for six months at a time, it would transform us as athletes and make us more likely to achieve our goals of qualifying for the Olympic Games'

The Academy is based within the NSW Sport and Recreation Centre at Point Wolstoncroft and offers a range of training options including use of the 25m swimming pool, tennis courts, beach volleyball, basketball, soccer, paddling, biking, trekking and fun games like bocce ball, putt putt golf and giant board games.

The team competed at the NSW Laser Metropolitan Championship hosted on Sydney Harbour over the weekend 7-8 March. 'The regatta was crazy fun out on the Harbour, very picturesque sailing with the bridge and Opera House. The craziness was caused by all the different boats using the water with us from pirate ships, ferries, yachts to power boat whizzing between the fleet. I have never seen so many boats on one bit of water!' said Raymond Numa from Papa New Guinea.

The H2O Sports Academy Australia has opened bookings for Laser training camps in October and November at the centre and will facilitate teams competing in the Australian Laser racing circuit in December and January. Places are limited so get in quick! email: info@h2o-sports-academy.com.au
