Eurosaf Youth Sailing, European Championship – Eurosaf announce that the 29er Class will be open for all countries to compete. With the launch of the EUROSAF Youth Sailing, European Championship website it is now possible for countries to register their teams to compete in the 2015 European Youth Championship taking place in Brest, France, under the burgee of the Société des Régates de Brest, from 27th July to 2nd August.

In a development from previous years, it has been announced that with the championship being held in Brest, Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia have been invited to send their youth sailing teams to compete in the event, with the objective of this becoming a permanent arrangement should the trial in 2015 prove a success.

In addition, the OA, along with Fédération Française de Voile (FFVoile) and EUROSAF, further announce today that the 29er class will be open to entries from all countries, including all non-European countries. This will enable sailors from outside Europe, who are intending to compete in the 29er World Championship being held in the UK, commencing on 8th August, to find some top European competition against which to compete, on their way to their Worlds in the UK. An amendment to the Notice of Race, first published in January this year, is now available.

'The FFVoile have supported and encouraged the development of sailing in North African countries, particularly at youth level, so with the Championship being held in the French Port of Brest, inviting these countries to participate seemed to be the logical thing to do,' said Jean-Pierre Champion, President of the FFVoile. 'Africa is such a large Continent, with the major sailing countries located in the very north and south, thousands of miles apart,' he continued. 'Opening the opportunity for those from North Africa to compete against some of the best under 19 sailors from Europe, can only be beneficial for sailing in the African Continent and for sailing as a whole'.

'EUROSAF were only too delighted to agree to this development' said Dan Ibsen, Chairman of the EUROSAF Events Committee. 'It seems an excellent idea to us in EUROSAF and helps to improve the standard of youth sailing in these countries, which are fast developing nations in the world of sailing'. 'To extend entries in the 29er class to include all sailing nations, gives non-European sailors the opportunity to test their skill against some of the better sailors within Europe and is good preparation for the World Championship in the UK'.

The EUROSAF Youth Sailing, European Championship is an annual event, based upon the same lines as that of the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship. It is for sailors under the age of 19 on the 31st December, in the year of the event, and entries are exclusively through the National Authorities for Sailing in each country.
