Dutch Match Cup wins Tourism Award

Batavia Sailing Center, the Dutch organising team responsible for staging the brand new fifth stage of the 2014 Alpari World Match Racing Tour has scooped the 2014 Flevius Award presented by Flevoland Tourism.

The Dutch Match Cup was shortlisted from thirty applications for the Flevius Award organised annually by the Tourism Board of Flevoland. Since the introduction of the award in 2009, the award recognises contribution towards the tourism and leisure industry in the Flevoland province.

Jan Nico Appelman, Deputy Province of Flevoland said 'The nominees all contribute to new an innovative entrepreneurship in the leisure sector, an important economic pillar of Flevoland. Presenting the Flevius Award, we show that innovative and entrepreneurship is appreciated. '

Joop van Diest, Event Director of the Dutch Match Cup added: 'We are delighted by winning the Flevius Award and appreciate that the public also supports our initiative. We are already working on the next edition of the Dutch Match Cup and this recognition gives us extra energy.'

The judging panel particularly looked for the orgnisation of events with a focus on youth programmes. Following a visit to the Dutch Match Cup in September, the panel was impressed by the side activities at the event including the youth sailing program.

James Pleasance, Executive Director of the Alpari World Match Racing Tour commented, 'Our congratulations to the Dutch Match Cup team for a well-deserved award. This year was the first ever Dutch Match Cup and also the first time as a Tour event in Holland. A great deal of effort went into organising the event and we are delighted to have been able to contribute to its success.'
