by Yachting Victoria on 6 Oct 2015
At a yacht club near you - Discover Sailing Days Yachting Victoria
The sailing community in Victoria is coming together to help Victorians discover the experience of sailing. A fun, healthy, inclusive and inexpensive experience is what the annual Discover Sailing Days provide, with over 65 sailing clubs participating state wide.

With families encouraged to attend the events and enjoy the many land and water based activities provided by yacht clubs around Victoria. Parents and children can enjoy a family orientated day at some of Victoria’s most beautiful seaside locations.

Discover Sailing Program Manager, Gavin Wall said, “Discover Sailing Days are a major part of our event calendar and offer the opportunity for the local community to get involved in club life. Last year saw more than 4000 people visit some of Victoria’s many sailing clubs, engage in a free sailing experience and enjoy the many benefits our clubs have to offer.”

“The family atmosphere and opportunity to sail with experienced sailors, combined with the beautiful locations, really showcases club life.” Current club members are encouraged to “bring a friend” into the sailing world.

More clubs are participating each year in Discover Sailing Days, all participating clubs supply all boats and safety equipment required for the free activities. Each club will have a Discover Sailing Host and many happy volunteers available to answer any questions on the day.

The Discover Sailing Days for this year will be on Sunday November 8th, 2015 and Sunday January 10th, 2016. However many clubs host Discover Sailing Days on alternative weekends, so families should contact their nearest club for details or search for Discover Sailing programs on the Discover Sailing website.

Visitors should wear clothing and shoes that they are happy to get wet – non marking soles are preferred – and bring sunscreen and a hat.
