Desolation Sound added to Salish Sea Pilot free cruising guides

Salish Sea Pilot has added Desolation Sound to its lineup of free cruising guides covering destinations along the west coasts of British Columbia and Washington.

The guide, with 74 pages and more than 90 illustrations, offers detailed information of anchorages, marinas and passages throughout Desolation Sound and the Discovery Islands.

The new release follows in the wake of Salish Sea Pilot's popular guides to British Columbia's Gulf Islands and Washington’s San Juan Islands. All the guides are free downloads from Salish Sea Pilot. The first two have been downloaded almost 10,000 times in the last year.

Like the others, the Desolation Sound guide is a Portable Document Format (PDF) file that is viewable on Windows, Macintosh and Linux computers, as well as mobile devices such as Apple's iPhone and iPad, and Android phones and tablets. Once downloaded, the guides do not need an internet connection. Users who prefer paper can print out pages to bring along on their next cruise.

Salish Sea Pilot editor Jim Burgoyne said while the guides are published in annual editions, they are constantly upgraded.

'The instant we learn of changes, whether from a guide user, from a business or from our own research, the guides are edited to reflect it and a new version uploaded,' Burgoyne said. 'Our readers are fabulous, the best resource we have.'

Burgoyne and his wife, Lynne Picard, launched Salish Sea Pilot in 2011, after completing a three-year sail home from Asia in Quiver, their Vancouver 27. They now live aboard their Tayana 37 in Victoria, BC.
