Diocesan Auckland Girls and Kerikeri High School dominated other Australia and New Zealand teams at the 2014 NZSS Interdominion Championships held over three days.
The top three Australian and New Zealand Secondary School boys and girls teams selected from the NZSS Teams Racing Nationals of 32 teams, were invited to meet this week in Algies Bay to fight out what effectively is the Bledisloe Cup of Schools Teams Racing.
After five round robins of respective girls and boys tight racing The Diocesan Auckland Girls School finished ahead of National rival Schools Napier and New Plymouth Girls High School each who dominated Ascham (Sydney) and Canberra Girls Grammar School. On the Open course, NZ National heavy weights Kerikeri High School remained in top spot ahead of Auckland Grammar School and The Friends’ School (Hobart) each finishing ahead of The Scots College (Sydney), Macleans College (Bucks) and St Joseph’s School (Adelaide).
Diocesan Girls Captain Eliza Wilkinson commented that the racing was competitively tight, particularly so on day two when all teams adjusted to Algies Bay conditions. She added that she was grateful for the strength of the Diocesan coach James Rountree who ably assisted Dio rebuild a new team.
All teams communicated significant appreciation of the NZ Teams Sailing Association Regatta organisation for managing and providing a fun Interdominion Championship of 149 races.
