More images shot from the start of the 2012 Coastal Classic today. The race has finished in Russell, first home was the ORMA60 TeamVodafoneSailing, followed by the catamaran Taipeng. First monohull was V5 (David Nathan) with Wired (Rob Bassett) finishing 20 minutes later.

The fleet was hit with a 35kt squall soon after the start which gave them a slingshot start for the ride north.

Coastal Classic- Securing glory in Russell
Multiple new records, including one standing for 16 years, were broken or set in the Coastal Classic. Multiple new records, including one standing for sixteen years, were broken or set in the Coastal Classic Auckland to Russell Yacht Race, organised by the New Zealand Multihull Yacht Club this weekend. There is little doubt that the boats which sailed conservatively maximised their chance of finishing, and securing glory in Russell.
