CYCA Trophy-Passage Series - Southern Cross Cup

This Saturday, 13 December and Sunday 14 December 2014, the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia’s Trophy-Passage Series will be conducted.

The CYCA Trophy-Passage Series, combined with the Bird Island Race sailed earlier this month, and the non-droppable Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, will also decide the Southern Cross Cup. Held every odd year from 1967 to 2001, it was reintroduced last year as an annual event.

Racing in the annual CYCA Trophy Series, conducted under IRC, ORCi and PHS, starts from 11.00am on Saturday and Sunday. Principal Race Officer, Denis Thompson will select the courses on the day, decided by the weather. Courses range in size from 17-27 nautical miles and start from Shark Island and finish at Watsons Bay. In the case of heavy weather a harbour course will be set.

What: CYCA Trophy-Passage Series – a fleet of 30 yachts which includes three teams competing for the Southern Cross Cup

When: 1100hrs daily, Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 December, 2014.

Where: Racing will start from Shark Island and continue on a passage race to an offshore mark and return to finish at Watsons Bay. In the case of heavy weather a harbour course will be set.

Who: SOLAS Big Boat winner Wild Oats XI, Overall winner Rolex Sydney Hobart 2013, Victoire, Matt Allen’s Ichi Ban, Paul Clitheroe’s Balance, Mark Bartlett’s 65 Caro from the Cayman Islands making its debut before Rolex Sydney Hobart, Cougar II Anthony Lyall’s TP52 fresh from its record breaking Maria Island Race record and Craig Carter’s WA entry, Indian among a class 31 entries.

NB: Media boat is only available on Sunday for this event and media must book your space aboard by Friday 5.00pm.
