Barrie Beehag Ski Race to be run on the Murray River

The Annual Barrie Beehag Ski Race is to be run on the Murray River between Deep Creek Marina and Torrumbarry Weir on Saturday 22nd November 2014.

The event in its ninth year of racing, will see 130 boats leave Deep Creek Marina from 10am at one minute intervals, heading towards Torrumbarry Weir. The boats in 11 classes range from the 'Superclass' boats such as Hellrazor, Blazen, Wild Thing, to the 60mph and 70mph boats such as Burn N Wood, The Californian etc.

Please note there will be a River Closure: Saturday 16th November – Fraser Road Boat Ramp to Torrumbarry Weir - 6.30am to 5.00pm

The best place to watch all the action is at Deep Creek Marina, where there is a family friendly atmosphere. There will be lots of activities for the kids including, face painting, jumping castle, with an array of foods and drinks available. Or you may wish to pack your own picnic and make use of the grassy area at the Deep Creek foreshore, bring your picnic rug and enjoy a family day.

Once all the boats have left the Deep Creek Area, there will be an on water display from the Southern Water Ski Team. Watch them create pyramids on water, and show case their water skiing skills in a visually spectacular and entertaining way.

The oldest competitor in the event is Noel Griffin who is driving Blazen in the Super Class event, he is fourth away. The youngest competitor will be Echuca local, Jaymi Clancy who is partnering with Grace Tooth from Coleambally, skiing behind 99PC Team 4, with Phil Mulchay driving and Lisa Clancy observing.

Entry to the area, is $2 per person or $5 per family. Official race programs are now will be available for $5. The program of events is also available on the Southern 80 app which can be downloaded from the iTunes store or Google Play for $1.99.

Competitor briefing, breath testing and pick up, of Race Safe tag is at the top of the boat ramp – Deep Creek Marina from 7am. Briefing at 7.30am.

At 10am the boats will leave from in front of the marina and head towards Torrumbarry Weir.

Once all boats have been accounted for the teams at Torrumbarry Weir, they will then return in order of finish time, back to Deep Creek. Whilst the turnaround occurs, at Deep Creek Marina there will be a water ski show provided by Southern Waters Show Ski Team, to keep the crowd entertained.

Presentation will be held later on that afternoon at Deep Creek Marina, be sure to head down there to catch all the action!

During racing, results will be updated via the Southern 80 twitter feed, with the final results available on our web page later that day.
