Night at the Navy Australian National Maritime Museum http://www.anmm.gov.au
There’s plenty of ‘cool’ things to keep children of all ages entertained at the Australian National Maritime Museum with an amazing Antarctic inspired school holiday program this April. Create a Antarctic animal snowdome, produce your own South Pole claymation for YouTube. Plus there’s the museum’s latest exhibitions Rescue, Ships and the Sea, and Elysium Epic, a stunning visual exhibition of life above and below the Antarctic ice, as well as a special evening with the Navy onboard HMAS Vampire and HMAS Advance.

Amazing Antartic! Craft Activities

Daily during school holidays, 10 am–4 pm (hourly sessions)
Delve into the amazing Antarctic environment with arts and craft, cool science experiments, dress-ups and games. Uncover how global warming affects the critters of the South Pole. Create your own Antarctic animal snowdome and make a weather balloon mobile. For ages 5–12 years. Child $8.50. Adults general museum fees apply. Members and Big Ticket Free.

A Night in the Navy

Saturday 20 April, 5.30pm–7 pm
Join our salty sea dog Jack Bluto Tar on Saturday night for a family evening of adventure aboard our destroyer HMAS Vampire and patrol boat HMAS Advance. Check out Vampire’s gun turret and uncover the truth about the ship’s ghost lurking in the surgery. Use your powers of deduction to decode a secret semaphore message. Enjoy delicious snacks and make a souvenir Vampire badge on the museum’s wharf. For Ages 7+. Child $20/Member child $18. Adult $15/Member adult $10.

Of course there’s plenty of free things to see and do too, including the museum’s Cabinet of Curiosities where kids can explore wonderful and curious scientific objects from our education collection. The whole family can enjoy our Free Familiy Movies each day at 2pm during the school holidays. When whales meet sails
CAMPER helmsman Roberto ‘Chuny’ Bermudez found himself nearly face to face with whale in middle of North Atlantic Ocean. Currently the database for marine mammal strikes is very sparse. We are requesting sailors and boaters help to submit information on current and past incidents, however long ago that may be. By giving a location, date, identification if possible, and any other relevant information you can help scientists better understand where marine mammals are at risk for strikes
