Boats head to the finish line on day 2 of the Hansa Nationals - Australian Hansa Class Championships 2014 Australian Hansa Class Association
On day 2 of the Australian Hansa Class Championships 2014 racing at Goolwa Regatta Yacht Club presented plenty of challenges for sailors and the race management team.
Wind was variable in direction and strength and two more races were completed for the Hansa 303 two-person and Hansa 2.3 divisions. Later in the day the breeze settled in from the south enabling four more races for the Liberty and 303 single-person classes.
Allister Peek (ACT) leads the 2.3s after four races, two points ahead of Mark Thorpe (VIC), with Craig Escott (TAS) another two in arrears.
In the 303 two-person competition, Christine Elliott and David Staley (VIC) have a three-point margin of Chris Symons and Neal Rodwell (TAS), who are competing in their first Hansa class regatta together. Justin Millsom and Max Britton (NSW) are currently in third after three races.
In the single-person 303s, Chris Symons (TAS) has taken the lead after dropping his OCS in race two, and now has a five-point lead over David Staley (VIC). Bruce James (VIC) is two points further behind in third.
Graeme Martin (WA) has posted four bullets today to take a three-point lead on the Liberty leaderboard. Michael Leydon (NSW) is second with Mike Cull (WA) in third overall.
Stronger breezes are forecast for tomorrow, the final day of the Australian Championships with the race management team hoping to get three more races for each division.
