Less than 90 minutes behind the TP52’s, Paul Winkelmann’s JV42, Island Fling finished an impeccable Hong Kong to Hainan Race in an elapsed time of 29h 00m 18s to take the IRC Racer 1 title and also engrave her name on the IRC Overall trophy ahead of Team Beau Geste. Having previously competed twice in the race, navigator Jules Salter explained that 'it was a really good fun race. The weather played out to the model so the race was relatively straightforward, although the boys had to work hard – we never had any downtime.'
Some seven hours later, Sydney GTS43 EFG Bank Mandrake 3 completed her first ever offshore race, with co-owner Fred Kinmonth expressing his satisfaction with her performance, saying 'it was absolutely brilliant. We had between 18 to 25kts of breeze and came down under an A sail pretty much all the way. We’re very pleased with the new boat – it’s not a downwind flyer but it’s a very solid, very fast and excellent boat and I’m sure we’ll have a lot of success with it in the future.' EFG Bank Mandrake 3 may not have beaten Island Fling in this race, however Kinmonth and Burns claim the Audi China Coast Race Week title for IRC Racer 1 on the strength of her performance in Audi China Coast Regatta.
As predicted, Anteros 36 Krampus finished around 0500hrs this morning, with ARC40 Sell Side Dream and Beneteau First 50 Tipsy Frenz finishing just after 1300hrs today, leaving Millenium 45 Surfdude as the last boat on the water, with about two hours left to go.
