Audi Hamilton Island RW - Performance Racing and Non Spinnaker tight

by Al Constable on 28 Aug 2010

Today's Lindeman Island race, the final race of Audi Hamilton Island Race Week 2010 is all important and will decide the podium placings in many divisions.

Performance Racing Division 1 is no exception.

Yesterday's handicap win for Race 6 went to Rob Bassett's New Zealand Bakewell-White 52 Wired from Bruce Absolon's Volvo 60 Nikon Spirit of the Maid.

The win allowed Wired an Overall series buffer of five points. One O Nine (Robert Salteri) is second on 21 points, as is Questionable Logic (Terry Archer), so the battle is tight for second.

The Melges 24 of Matt Allen and Warwick Rooklyn lived up to its name, Bandit, taking the handicap win in Race 6 for Performance Racing Cruising Division 2. Bandit the Overall series leader is just two points clear of Ian Ford's Whalewatchingsydney, who in turn is two points clear of Mike Roper's Ropabull.

In the Cruising Non Spinnaker Division the handicap win in Race 5 went to Smart Openers (Tony Ross) from Ceilidh (Peter Williams). The second place moved Ceilidh to second in the Overall series, but she is seven points behind Still Dangerous (Ivor Burgess) and will have her work cut out today to beat the Beneteau Oceanis 423 for the top divisional honours. Smart Openers currently lies in third, one point behind Ceilidh.
