Royal Akarana Yacht Club, the home of blue water sailing, is gearing up to race a small yet enthusiastic fleet to Gisborne - just for something different.

The Port at Gisborne is restricted on the number of entrants the race can take cater for, so an invitation was sent to the keen owners requesting their interest and entry.

Anarchy owner and skipper AJ Reid was totally keen about the race.

“We are definitely in! This is why we built this boat, for longer offshore races like the Auckland to Gisborne. Bring it on!” said AJ.

Anarchy was the first boat to accept the invitation and entered the race. They were followed by Ran Tan II, Sun Fast 360 Racing, Rikki, Bushido, Lawless, Truxton, Notorious, Iemanja and V5.

Unfortunately the PIC Coastal Classic claimed a few victims and Notorious and Lemanja were forced to withdraw from the Gisborne race.

With just one month to go until the start gun is fired on Thursday 26th November, a few spaces to join the race have opened up.

RAYC is inviting Category 2 monohulls from 30-40 feet to take on the Auckland to Gisborne challenge.

Only three spaces are available so to register, just jump onto the website www.rayc.co.nz/gisborne and officially enter!

The tight knit fleet will provide an awesome party atmosphere at the finish, so don’t miss out. Bring your boat, and come and play in Gisborne!

What you need to know:

- The Category 2 race is open to all Monohulls between 30 and 50 feet of waterline length
