Andrew Brown reports on the International Moth Worlds in England:
No sailing again today as the breeze was 30 knots. Up to 4 races for each group tomorrow with a better forecast, though Wednesday is looking bad again!
Tomorrow will be a big day with mental skills being at the top of the list as boredom has set in with a lot of the fleet, so some of the focus on the racing has gone!
Sorry but no real other news here in Weymouth other than 'Hurry up and wait'…
Still learning heaps about these boats and have met some super people and have discussed great ideas, and the Southern Spars EC6 Carbon Stays are a hit with sailors and support alike, as are the Carbon Battens from Evolution Composites.
Cheers for now,
An earlier report:
It has been a busy time in Europe so far, with a successful coaching trip to to Kiel Week regatta with Geoff Wolley and Mark Overington in the 470 class finishing 5th overall, but more importantly they achieved their goals while they were at the regatta, and the team have a few 'work ons' from the regatta as well.
We spent 8 out of the 9 days on the water and the boys are sailing amazing well downwind and their attitude to the programme is second to none. I enjoyed my time working with them.
After 'sunny' Kiel, it was off to another great weather venue and that is Weymouth! Someone tried to pull my leg and say that it is summer here in the Northern Hemishpere; well I am yet to see the proof!!!
Portland is a lovely little seaside village and our accommodation is lovely and yes there will be wind for the 2012 Olympics – maybe even too much… yesterday for the Moth Worlds practise race there was no sailing and today was gusting 30 knots so no racing today either! Tomorrow forecast is 25 knots and Tuesday is 22 knots! By the way no algee here either!
The build up to the Moth Worlds has been interesting for me with 99 boats entered and some very smart people here preparing their boats and getting out sailing. My learning curve has increased dramacially!
My boat is totally ready to go, and sailing has gone well and I am really looking forward to getting racing once we finally start!
For the first time at the Moth Worlds the fleet has had to be into two fleets, with 6 races for a qualifying series and then 4 final series races in the gold (top) fleet and Silver fleet.
I have flown under the radar a lot here, but my boat has had a lot of attenion and especially the Southern Spars EC6 rigging and also the Evolution Composites battens and wand system I have.
So hopefully we will get out tomorrow as a bit of breeze will sort out the men from the boys!!!
Sorry for the lack of updates, but it has been busy, busy, busy!
Andrew
