Emirates Team NZ's new cat arrived at the base today ...... the chase cat that is!
Curly Salthouse and team designer Pete Melvin worked on the concept and design of the 45 ft cat which is capable of speeds of over 50 knots if required. the chase boat also has the pulling capability to right and AC72 if required - hopefully not.
The boat was built by Salthouse Boatbuilders and the tube by Lancer. She is believed to be the worlds largest Cat RIB.
The cat has been designed to stay with the AC72 for the long, but only, 30 days of sailing that are ahead until January 31, 2013, when the sailing restrictions change.
Emirates Team NZ's AC72 is scheduled for launch in a public ceremony at the Viaduct Harbour on Saturday, July 21 at around 6.00pm. The event will be screened live on the prime TV news, and will be attended by John Key, the New Zealand Prime Minister. First sailing day is expected the following week.
