It was a day of mixed fortunes for Emirates team New Zealand today, says the Team on their Facebook site.
Bad fortune to damage the under rigging during the pre race tune up. Good fortune that it happened on practice race day.
Not a major breakage but enough to warrant further inspection back at the dock and ensure no further damage going into tomorrow’s first point scoring race day.
“Obviously we are really disappointed to miss the practice racing. We need all the time we can get on the water at the moment, but I guess as a consolation the issue occurred today and not tomorrow when there are vital points at stake.” Said a philosophical skipper Glenn Ashby.
Race 1 starts tomorrow at 1:10pm local time or 11.00pm NZT. Forecast is for 10- 15 knots.
It is best to download the America's Cup App (and pay the $10 or so subscription) - you can then watch it using the same login on a PC or Mac, or take your chances with coverage on Americascup.com which is supposed to be avalable to New Zealand viewers - there being no TV rights sold yet for New Zealand.
