All girl crew to tackle Prince Phillip Cup Stuart Loft
The Metung Yacht Club team of Sarah Clough, Jacqui Loft and Jayde Evison-Rose has entered the Prince Phillip Cup. The regatta is the Australian Titles for the International Dragon Class.
The event gets under way on the 2nd of January and is being hosted by Royal Brighton Y.C. on the waters of Melbourne’s Port Phillip Bay.
As skipper Clough remarked this is a first for the Dragon class as this will be the first year an all girl crew has entered the regatta.
The girls have been racing together for the last two seasons, mainly sailing an Etchell but only recently taking on the very technical Dragon. The team has over 70 years of sailing experience between them with all three sailing from the tender ages of five.
Their major goal is to compete at an International level in the class with World Titles held in Europe most years.
All three girls wanted to acknowledge their supporters and of course the overwhelming support from members and friends from their home base Metung Yacht Club.
The MYC is situated on the stunning waters of Bancroft Bay which is on Victoria’s Gippsland Lakes. The club has sailed Dragons since the 1960’s and now boasts a fleet of over 12 boats, both Fibreglass and classic timber hulled boats.
