Abell Point Yacht Club to launch new Sunset Series

by Luke McCaul on 8 Jul 2014
Colin Bell, committee member of Abell Point Yacht Club. Abell Point Marina
Abell Point Yacht Club (APYC) will launch its new Friday night twilight calendar from the 18th July renaming it the 'Abell Point Sunset Series'.

With the cruising season in the Whitsundays in full swing, prime sailing conditions will kick start the weekly sunset series which will include a number of great social events and a range of prizes for keen sailors. The first sunset race of the series on the 18th will also follow with a BBQ in the new North Village public area where members will be provided with their very own freshly branded APYC burgees and caps.

Members of the APYC are encouraged to bring along friends and fellow yachties to participate in the Sunset Series to enjoy the great sailing conditions and get behind a new era of the Yacht Club in association with Abell Point Marina.

The launch of the social series is also well timed for local and visiting yachties to use the new series as a feeder event for the upcoming Airlie and Hammo Race Weeks to ensure their crew and vessel is well tuned for the big events.

Vice Commodore of Abell Point Yacht Club Rupert King said 'The launch of the new Sunset Series is very exciting and is great to see a regular sailing event on the yacht club calendar. I am looking forward to seeing some new entrants participating in the series and other on and off water events throughout the year’.

The Abell Point Yacht Club were bolstered by the support of now main sponsor Abell Point Marina earlier this year, with new owner Paul Darrouzet committing to reviving the club and growing it's on and off water events in order to build members and create more of a yacht club feel to the marina.

Register the Sunset Series in your diary, get your mates together and come and join the fun of the new Friday sunset series at the Abell Point Yacht Club. Meet at Sorrentos from 3pm for a 4:30pm race start in front of the Abell Point Marina rock wall outside Sorrentos Restaurant and Bar. For more information on the Sunset Series go to Albert Park Yacht Club
