Morticia wins line honours in the APC Logistics Brisbane to Gladstone Multihull Yacht Race. Morticia had to fight off strong competition from Chillpill and Boss Racing. Morticia led shortly after the start and led the fleet out of Moreton Bay. They maintained their lead until the finish but with Boss Racing and Fantasia staying in close contact.
The Morticia crew felt they made the right move to tack in close to Pancake Creek which gave them an advantage over Boss Racing and Chillpill.
Friday night took its toll on a number of boats with a number retiring and some suffering some damage such as broken rudders, hatches, prodders and stretched stays. During the night the fleet experienced 20 knot ENE winds with on-coming seas. Fantasia recorded a gust of 30 knots.
In contrast to that Saturday the winds dropped to below five knots with some yachts being becalmed.
The live video feed from two boats, Renaissance and Fantasia was a success. They were viewed on the Multihull Yacht Club's website and Fantasia's video being viewed by thousands on Boatson.Tv.
As usual the outgoing tide in Gladstone Harbour impacted the fleet and had a big influence on the final result.
OMR and PCF winners will be announced at tonight's presentation.
The Race control office ran smoothly with the tracking system making the task easier.
