"Flying High" 3060 sale by Peter Dalton and Hella Moebus challenging for a place - Flying Fifteen Australian Championship Canberra YC Media Rooke

The Flying Fifteen Australian Championship being conducted by Canberra Yacht Club in January will have an international flavour with several British sailors entering, their boats are already on the way from the UK. From Australia entries are coming in from Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia in addition to the local Canberra fleet.

Current Australian Champions Dave Tucker and Matt Summers sailing '16' from Western Australia will be there to defend their title won last season at Queensland's Sandgate Yacht Club. Other past Australian Champions will be there including ACT's John Tracey as well as Victorians Craig and Ian Rainey plus class stalwart and past champion Bill Shand.

The Classic division should attract strong competition with current Classic champion Rupert Burdon-Bear and Les Kearney from Victoria sailing 'Affrodite' defending their title, there should also be strong competition in the Silver division which was won last season by Queensland's Rod Molkentin and Chris Lark sailing 'Think Big'.

There will be no problems washing salt water from the Flying Fifteens at the Australian Championship in Canberra, in fact there's lots of water at present and it's all fresh! The facilities at the CYC are in great shape ready for all visiting crews and there is a wide range of accommodation available in Canberra to suit all budgets.

Competitors will also be hoping to meet the entry requirements for the upcoming World Championship which will be conducted in July 2011 by Hayling Island Sailing Club in the UK.

There are some excellent boats from beginner to advanced level listed in the for sale section of the websites listed below, you could even get one in time for the Canberra championship. If you would like to try sailing on a Flying Fifteen you should contact either your State's Class President or your follow the links on each of the states websites to find your local Flying Fifteen club.
