A-Class World Championships 2014 – Eight titles for Ashby

Nathan Outteridge was the winner of the final race in the 2014 A-Class World Championships, sailed at Takapuna

Glenn Ashby of Australia won his eighth A-Class World Championship title with a second place finish in the final race. New Zealander Blair Tuke taking fourth in the final race to finish second behind to Ashby. Peter Burling, Tuke's 49er skipper the was third overall.

Emirates Team NZ tactician Ray Davies (NZL) finished third in the final race, but it was not enough to edge him ahead of former Olympic Silver medalist and Class President, Andrew Landenberger for fourth place overall.

A-Class Worlds- Ashby wins eighth World title
Australia's Glenn Ashby won his eighth World Championship in the International A-Class off Takapuna, Auckland, on Sunday The final race was sailed in a building seabreeze, which provided limited foiling opportunities. Another top Australian sailor, Nathan Outteridge is widely conceded to have a sweet spot in these marginal foiling conditions, and the 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist used this advantage to ease past Ashby on the final downwind leg, to score his first race win of the regatta.

The stars of the fleet shone again on the world of A Class sailors today in race seven and eight of the 2014 A Class Cat .The stars of the fleet shone again on the world of A Class sailors today in race seven and eight of the 2014 A Class Catamaran World Championships. To the relief of many after Thursday’s heavy slog the two races were sailed in excellent conditions with flat water and steady breeze.

It has attracted a very classy field with many America’s Cup sailors, many A-Class World Champions, top designers – all sailing in the most spectacular international class world championship. There are at least five Olympic Medalists competing plus one AC72 helmsman.
