by Groupama Race on 28 Sep 2016
Scallywag- 2016 Groupama Race Groupama Race http://www.groupamarace.nc/
Scallywag, the longest monohull finished second behind the Simon Hull skippered ORMA60 trimaran, Franck Racing (formerly TeamVodafoneSailing).

Scallywag also becomes is also the fastest monohull to sail around New-Caledonia. She took 2 days, 13 hours, 19 min and 55s, to establish a new record for monohulls.

Scallywag’s skipper was expecting a “battle” with Vodafone however the team arrived less than 13 hours astern of the trimaran.

Highlight of the race for Scallywag was sailing through the Canal Woodin at 24 knots.

Beau Geste and Ichi Ban are the next two boats expected to arrive in Noumea. Scallywag is watching Beau Geste's arrival as she is the main threat on IRC corrected time.

Up North, the night was very quiet with “no wind”. The boats went through the Grand Passage only at dawn. The Grand Passage is usually known for its high seas and strong wind but not for this time…

For them it is time to head back to Noumea! The second lap has started! Because of the wind, the boats will have to tack and tack again…

After four days of race, three boats are left on the East coast: Gummo-Phytocal, Odyssey and Diogène. They will go through the Grand Passage during the day.
