Day one action at 2016 European Soling Championship Icarus Sailing Media
Two Austrian teams scored a good success at the beginning of the European Soling Championship, which is for the first time hosted at the beautiful Traunsee. Florian Felzmann managed to win the very first race of the European Championship and is ranked on the fourth place after day one. The team of former European Champion Christian Binder even succeeded in overtaking the local competitor and finished day one on place two.
The winner of the first day was the Hungarian team, which is extremely close in the lead with the same score as the Austrian Team. For Christian Binder it was a very successful start – after winning the European Championship in 2001, he aims to stay in the lurking position till the last day.
“There are still a lot of races to go. It is important to stay in the top field, so that we can attack at the last races.” The key of success was “reading the wind on the water”, as the weather conditions where unfavorable for benefiting from “Soling-skills”.
The weather forecast enhances a positive feeling to deliver already tomorrow a great Soling-Show. Beginning at 10:00 am the 35 teams continue the battle for the title with three races.
Standings of the European Soling Championship (day one):
1. Sándor Varjas (HUN) Eight points
2. Christian Binder (AUT) Eight points
3. Peter Hall (CAN) Nine points
4. Florian Felzmann (AUT) 13 points
