2015 SLAM Combined High Schools Champs - Entries expand as start nears

by Rod Carter on 24 Mar 2015
Action from the 2014 SLAM Combined High Schools Champs Chris Munro
Sailors planning to contest the SLAM Combined High School (CHS) Championships at Belmont 16ft Sailing Club, Lake Macquarie next month have until 5pm Friday 27th March to submit an online entry to avoid the late entry fee.

The SLAM CHS Championship is the premier racing event for high school students. So far the event has attracted a fleet of 60 plus with final entries expected to take the total boats entered to well over 100. Race organisers are expecting a last minute flood of entries in the championship. Entries so far include a range of classes from Sabots, Lasers, F11, Cherubs, 29ers, Multihulls, Moths to even an 18ft Skiff.

Young sailors will not only test their racing skills against top competition but will also have the chance to be crowned 2015 Australian Schools Champion. There are no surprises on the starters list with all the serious contenders, including current champion, Henry Makin expected to defend his crown. However, there will be plenty of competition from the chasing fleet including Australian Youth Sailor of the Year, Harry Morton, who will be competing in his moth at the regatta.

We're certainly pleased to see so many competitors making their plans for the CHS,' said Event Director Rod Carter. 'Every year brings a different mix of classes and boats, but the fantastic location and racing always makes for great regatta. Along with naming right Sponsor SLAM and DeckHardware, we're looking forward to another successful regatta.'

The regatta runs from Tuesday 7th –Saturday 11th of April and is open to any sailor who is currently attending an Australian High School. The racing format for the regatta will involve nine races over the five days with all races on trapezoidal courses. This format proved to be a great success in previous years.

Entries will be accepted right up until the close of registration on the first day of racing, Tuesday 7th April. For more information on the 2015 Slam CHS Championship please visit the event website.
