2015 Rolex Fastnet Race – Volvo Team SCA to continue to compete

2015 Rolex Fastnet Race – SCA participated with all-female Team SCA in the Volvo Ocean Race 2014-2015. It was a three-year commitment, which concluded with the finish of the race in Gothenburg in June.

It has been a successful journey for SCA and to continue to leverage this platform Team SCA will be participating in a number of events during the remainder of 2015.

Team SCA will take part in the Artemis Challenge on August 13 and will, once again, be entering the Rolex Fastnet Race in August.

This is the second time that the team has participated in this iconic event, but this time they do as round the world race veterans.

The final sailing team for the race is still to be confirmed but most of the original sailing squad members have committed to continue to build on the team’s success in the Volvo Ocean Race, particularly in the shorter offshore legs and inshore races. Sam Davies and sisters Justine and Elodie Mettraux will be occupied with other projects so, in the short term, will not be sailing with the team.

“It will be really interesting to tackle the Fastnet for a second time. The crew now has the experience of thousands of offshore miles under their belt and they will be able to enjoy the race in a different way to our first participation. One of the objectives of the team is to continue to build and develop the skill set amongst this elite group of athletes, and provide them with tools necessary to continue to grow, develop and learn with the sport,” comments Richard Brisius, Managing Director of Team SCA.

Team SCA will then go to Italy to participate in the Genoa Boat Show, and take part in a Reunion Race on September 30 with a number of other Volvo Ocean 65 boats, and then follow this with a series of ProAm races until October 5.
