2015 RYA Zone and Home Country Championships preview

by RYA on 28 Jul 2015 The RYA Zone and Home Country Championships will take place at nine regional venues over the weekend of 26 – 27 September.

These RYA ‘Regional Championship’ events for each zone are aimed at all sailors in local clubs under the age of 16 who are racing in the RYA classes (Optimist, Topper, RS Feva XL and Windsurfer). They are ideal first-time events for club sailors, giving them the opportunity to get a feel of a championship atmosphere. In addition, each year at least one young sailor is selected from each of the nine RYA Zones and Home Countries to receive two years of exclusive use of a boat donated by the John Merricks SailingTrust.

The events also include ‘novice’ regatta fleets in Toppers, Tera Sport and Optimists where novice racers can join in and experience racing at a larger event under the supervision of a coach.

The Championships allow sailors to set themselves an end-of-year goal after training and racing over the summer. All events are supported by coaches and international judges giving advice and help throughout the weekend.
