2014 Harken International Youth MR Regatta - The last flight of the round robin was completed this morning with a surprise upset by Emma May (CYCA) defeating the event leader George Anyon (RNZYS) in light and shifty conditions. Also Harry Price (CYCA) completed his round robin defeating Sam McKay (RPNYC) which has pushed Harry up to equal first position with the teams from New Zealand.

After breaking the tied skippers to outright positions, the quarterfinals were raced with first against eighth and second against seventh and so-forth. In 10 knots of fairly constant breeze, the quarter finals were raced producing the semi-finalists for tomorrow’s racing! The semi-finalists are;

• George Anyon (RNZYS)
• Harry Price (CYCA)
• Sam McKay (RPNYC)
• Milly Bennett (RPAYC)

The racing between the top four teams has been very competitive and very close. RPAYC’s Milly Bennett commented on close quarter final against GSC Sam Ellis.

'It was all about the starts today and today you needed to make sure you had the lead-in leeward position approaching the start line from then on it was all about trying to stay in phase with the wind and trying not to separate too much from your opponent.' Said Milly.

For the lower ranked competitors, the round robins from ninth to 13th positions were raced to derive an outright standing for the competitors. The set positions are as follows;

5th Sam Ellis (GSC)
6th Malcolm Parker (RPAYC)
7th Matthew Kempkers (RNZYS)
8th Clare Costanzo (RPAYC)
9th Dylan Gore (RYCT)
10th Cyril Fortin (CNCYC)
11th Tom Trotman (SYC)
12th Emma May (CYCA)
13th Tiphaine Leroux (CNCYC)

Four teams from separate clubs will be going against each other in what some are saying is an ANZAC test with two teams from New Zealand to two from Australia. It is forecast to be a hot day with a stiff sea-breeze in the afternoon which see some very exciting racing!
