2014 Airlie Beach Race Week - Whitsunday Sailing Club is thrilled after winning the Major Festivals and Events category for Airlie Beach Race Week at the 2014 Whitsunday Tourism Awards.
Airlie Beach Race Week which is the club’s largest annual regatta has grown over the last 25 years to become a major sailing event not just in Queensland, but in Australia.
With Airlie Beach Race Week being a first-time winner of a Whitsunday Tourism Award, Whitsunday Sailing Club Commodore Jim Hayes said he is thrilled with the achievement.
'Airlie Beach Race Week has a great history and continues to impress its competitors as a unique regatta on Australia’s sailing calendar,' Mr Hayes said.
'This year, we celebrated the event’s 25th anniversary and even broke the record numbers of entries.'
'Now we can celebrate winning this terrific award.'
Mr Hayes said thanks must go to everyone who has been involved in Airlie Beach Race Week, particularly the competitors, volunteers and sponsors.
'We wish to thank everyone who has ever supported this great event and those who return year after year.'
'Thanks must also go to Don Algie, the event founder, the WSC members and the race week committee who put on the event each year.'
