2012 London Olympic silver medallist Lucinda Whitty will return to the bow of the Elliott 7 when she competes in the Marinassess Women’s Match Racing Regatta, hosted by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia over the 10-11 September weekend.

Whitty, who will be representing the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA) along with CYCA members Kathleen (Kat) Stroinovsky (Skipper), Sam Boyd and Tiff Fude. Stroinovsky is also returning to helm after a long absence from the Match Racing scene. Although Kat is currently unranked by World Sailing, she will head into this regatta with one of the strongest CV’s which includes being part of the Australian Women’s Match Racing Squad from 2008-2010 and winning the Women’s Match Racing World Championship in 2009.

The CYCA will field four other teams – all of whom have been training throughout the summer and winter period. Lauren Gallaway is the highest ranked CYCA skipper (WS Ranking 28) and is hoping to go one better this year after finishing second in this regatta last year.

Caitlin Tames (WS Ranking 51), Kirstin Norris (WS Ranking 56) and Elyse Guevara-Rattray (No WR) complete the line-up for the CYCA with Sydney Harbour rivals, the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron sending one team led by Claudia Thackray.

Milly Bennett, representing the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club, is the highest ranked skipper in the regatta. Bennett (WS Ranking 12) has recently competed in the Women’s International Match Racing Series throughout Asia and Europe and also won the Marinassess Regatta in 2014.

International competitors will also join the line-up with the ever competitive Youth Training Program (YTP) from the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron (RNZYS) represented by Celia Willison. Although Willison heads into the regatta unranked, she will have the guidance of long-time RNZYS YTP administrator Sara Tucker on-board.

2016 will mark the 21st consecutive year Marinassess have supported this regatta with Managing Director, John Messenger commenting “It’s great to see so many good young women sailors in match racing and at this event. I am thrilled to be a part of this event and continue to support sailors at the CYCA.

Racing commences on Saturday 10 September at 0930hrs, in the vicinity of Rushcutters Bay, Live results will be available on the CYCA website.
