18ft skiffs- Top Australians to compete in ANZAC Weekend regatta

by Sail-World on 23 Apr 2013
Thurlow Fisher Lawyers put on the action for the final race of the JJ Giltinan 2013 - 18ft Skiff JJ Giltinan Championships2013 - Race 7 Beth Morley - Sport Sailing Photography http://www.sportsailingphotography.com

A large and high quality fleet of 18ft skiffs are expected for the ANZAC Weekend Regatta which gets underway in Auckland this Thursday and runs through to Sunday, April 28, 2013.

In addition to the strong New Zealand fleet expected to number nine boats, four Australian skiffs will cross the Tasman.

The Australian boats have been named as Thurlow Fisher Lawyers, Smeg, Kenwood and Team Daley.

A key point of interest will be a resumption of hostilities following the JJ Giltinan Trophy in Sydney in March, when local knowledge of Sydney Harbour worked well for the home team. 30 boats contested that regatta, and a fleet of 13 will be one of the biggest seen on the Auckland Harbour for many years.

Leading the home team will be C-Spar (Alex Vallings) who was the top New Zealand boat in Sydney.
