Audi China Coast Regatta – Ragamuffin takes line honours on Day 2

Day 2 - 2015 Audi China Coast Regatta RHKYC/Guy Nowell http://www.guynowell.com/
Audi China Coast Regatta – When the Race Officer surveyed the race area to the east of Tung Lung Chau first thing, conditions looked promising, with 12kts of northerly breeze, however as the competitors approached the start line, Sofia Mascia was forced to display the AP after a wind shift of 50º and then move her entire race track to leave enough room for the IRC Racer 0 boats to round the windward mark without bumping into Ninepins.

Getting racing underway 30 minutes later, Mascia was rewarded with relatively stable wind strengths of 10-13kts which resulted in a competitive windward / leeward for everyone, however with the direction being unstable, a second windward leeward race was vetoed in favour of ensuring a good islands race around Po Toi island.

Unsurprisingly, Syd Fischer’s Team Ragamuffin was first to appear from behind the islands on course 11 and steamed into the finish line in 12kts to take line honours, ahead of a 90 minute procession. The breeze held to ensure that everyone recorded a finish, allowing sailors plenty of time to recuperate back at Middle Island.

Going into the final day of Audi China Coast Regatta, Ray Roberts’ Millennium Racing is leading IRC Racer 0 with four bullets, ahead of Sam Chan’s FreeFire, while in IRC Racer 1, Ker 46 Zannekin is leading Ker 42 Black Baza by four points. In IRC Racer 2, A40RC Seawolf is leading A35, Dexter II.

Beneteau First 34.7 Calamansi is sitting pretty in IRC Racer 3, while Kiasu, Darling and DEA II are separated by only two points in HKPN Division.

The first warning signal tomorrow will be at 1035hrs, with the racing starting off the east of Po Toi, and the overall prizegiving taking place back at RHKYC’s Kellett Island clubhouse after racing.
