Waka Racing- Shoot to end AWMRT season how we started it!

by Garth Ellingham on 10 Nov 2012
Action time for Waka Racing World Match Race Tour
So far the Alpari World Match Race Tour 2012 season has been a bit up and down for all of us involved with Waka Racing. After a cracking start to the season winning Match Race Germany, then following that up with third and fourth places in Korea and Sweden this should have had us placed right near the top of the leaderboard come the business end of the season.

However a strange new tour scoring system, a shocker event in St Moritz, and Americas Cup World Series commitments has left us heading into the final event (Monsoon Cup) in Malaysia with very slim chances to win the overall World Championship. Coupled with that our regular bowman Adam Martin broke his leg badly training in San Francisco on the AC45 and is out for the rest of the year.

This however does not dampen our drive to go to the Monsoon Cup and finish the season how we started! Currently the team is scattered across the globe but is putting in the hard yards for a big finish.

Come the end of the month we will all head home to Auckland for a three day training camp in the Farr MRX’s against fellow Tour Card Holders and good friends KiwiMatch. We will then head straight up to Malaysia for the big event.

Joining our team to replace Adam on the bow, will be Andrew McLean. He should fit in just fine as he has just come off doing the Volvo Ocean Race with Camper and has been racing with Emirates Team New Zealand for a number of years.

So at this stage we are counting down the days to get back into action and get some pay back of our own!
