The Brian Bennett designed VX One will compete in the New Year's regatta at Napier Sailing Club, starting on January 1st, 2013.
The VX One Design is the first to be imported to New Zealand, and will be sailed by Phil Quinn, who took delivery in December and has been working up in Auckland over the past couple of weeks.
The 19ft LOA VX One is designed to be sailed by two or three crew. She has a beam of just over 7ft and is easily trailed, and can be launched from a trailer, or by a crane.
Featuring spars by Southern Spars and sails by North Sails, the VX One Design originated in US where the class is expanding well in its first year. The VX One is manufactured in Savannah, USA
Quinn says their first sail in the VX One design went well. He sailed two up (female crew), and says the boat handled very well, and planed easily in just 8- 10kts of breeze with a gennaker.
The VX One is expected to be more than competitive with the Flying Fifteen and Elliott 5.9 at Napier if the performance in Auckland is carried over.
