Thailand Yacht Show 2016 – Ocean Emerald is a gem

by Guy Nowell, Sail-World Asia on 18 Dec 2016
Ocean Emerald leaving Ao Po Grand Marina. Thailand Yacht Show 2016. Thailand Yacht Show 2016
The Thailand Yacht Show 2016 (TYS) is happily under way, and so are the ancillary activities that make this event more than Just A Boat Show. Yesterday m/y Ocean Emerald hosted a VIP and Media cruise out of Ao Po Grand Marina and towards the fairytale islands of Phang Nga Bay. It was a perfect demonstration of why Thailand, and the surroundings of Phuket in particular, can properly be described as a World Class yachting destination.

Phang Nga Bay is nothing short of spectacular. No matter how many times you visit the improbable karst islands to the east of Phuket, the scenery never ceases to amaze. “It’s Avatar-land” said one guest.”I can’t believe what I am looking at,” said another. And of course the best way – actually, the only way – to visit Phang Nga Bay is by yacht.

m/y Ocean Emerald is a 41m superyacht designed by acclaimed architect Sir Norman Foster and built by Rodriguez Yachts. Acres of open deck space on three levels make for a magnificent social and party platform, all complemented by a cool and chic interior that invites a much longer stay than this morning’s cruise allowed. Five elegant suites can accommodate up to 12 guests in sybaritic comfort. Ocean Emerald is available for charter in Asia – usually based at OMYC Jomtien Beach, she has recently been cruising all the way from Phuket to the Philippines.

Please; pass another glass of rosé, step aside, and let me enjoy the view.
