Singapore Sailing seeks ISAF recognized training

by ISAF on 9 Apr 2014 ISAF Member National Authority Singapore Sailing has applied to ISAF for the accreditation of its National Sail Training Program after the 2014 ISAF Development Symposium in South Africa.

Singapore Sailing will be the 10th ISAF MNA to undergo the process of working with the International Sailing Federation in 'mapping' the National Training Programs of its members against an international agreed framework of key standards and, if successful, will join other ISAF MNAs in Great Britain, New Zealand, Italy, Austria, Oman, Spain, France, the Netherlands and South Africa in delivering an internationally accredited sail training program.

The ISAF Recognized Training Accreditation audit will be carried out by ISAF Nominated Expert and Development and Youth Committee Chairman Olivier Bovyn (FRA). The dates for the visit are yet to be formally agreed.

Head of Training for Singapore Sailing and 2013 ISAF Training Scholarship graduate, Joe Chan said, 'The Singapore Sailing Federation has always strived to continually improve its systems and processes and applying for ISAF Recognized Training accreditation in 2014 would allow the International Sailing Federation to validate our Federation's professionalism in areas of sailing training and development programme delivery. More importantly, it would allow Singapore to further contribute to the development of sailing not just nationally but also in the rest of the South-east Asian region.'

ISAF Training and Development Manager Dan Jaspers added, 'I am very happy that the Singapore Sailing Federation is further developing links with the International Sailing Federation in this way. It is a testament to the forward thinking leadership of Singapore Sailing that they have made a development plan for sailing in their Nation that not only covers Performance 'racing' related event hosting and attendance but that also focusses on growing the grass roots of the sport through a nationally structured 'learn to sail' program. I am sure that the future will show many great rewards for this type of vision and I very much look forward to being with the team in Singapore throughout this journey and supporting them the whole way.'
