SeaLink Magnetic Island Race Week 2015 – penultimate day awaits

by Tracey Johnstone on 31 Aug 2015 The 60-boat fleet are back on the water this morning for the penultimate day of the SeaLink Magnetic Island Race Week.

The multihulls and cruising boats are expected to head out on a 14 mile Cleveland Bay triangle course while the combined IRC and PHS divisions will be completing two windward/leeward races.

The start time of 11am for the cruising and multihulls boats looks tenuous as the race committee review the forecast. The weather looks like being light right around all courses. PRO Denis Thompson is expecting; “some sea breeze, but not until after 12pm and it will be weak”.

All division results are open to possible change after today’s racing.

The Multihulls are being led by Justin Grumwald’s Two Up Together (1/1), followed by Peter Wilcox’s Mojo (2/3) and Mike Hodges’ Renaissance (3/2).

Cruising Non Spinnaker is being led by John Parkes’ Untamed (1/1), followed by Naree Carton’s No Legends (2/2) and in third is the Melbourne entry, Wayne Frankcombe’s K-Yacht-Ic (3/5).

At the top of the Cruising Spinnaker 2 division is Paul Neilson’s De Ja Blue (1/2). In second is Jack Maguire’s Zen (3/4) and in third is Wayne McNee’s Celebrity (7/1).

In the Cruising Spinnaker 1 division the little Mango Tango from Bowen, skippered by Justin Daley, is in first place (1/5). In second place after a count-back is Doug Ryan’s Shazam (4/2) and in third, Geoff Adams’ True Colours (3/4).

The Performance Handicap division is being led by Peter Sorensen’s The Philosopher’s Club (1/4/2), just half a point ahead of Rob Curtis and Glen Tailby’s Kerazy (5.5/1/1). In third place Is Mike Steel’s Boadicca (2/5/5).

IRC is also in the hands of The Philosopher’s Club (1/4/2) with Bob Steel’s Quest (2/1/4) second on a count-back. In third place is David Currie’s Ponyo (3/5/1).
