RHKYC to host Bart’s Bash event September 21st on Victoria Harbour

by RHKYC Media on 16 Sep 2014 The ‘Largest Sailing Event in the World’ - Bart’s Bash - takes place on Sunday 21 September and the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club (RHKYC) is thrilled to be involved, hosting an event in Victoria Harbour.

The inaugural Bart’s Bash is a sailing race that will be run by sailing clubs all around the world on behalf of the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation, the charity named after Andrew Simpson, who tragically tragically died in 2013 in a training accident in San Francisco bay while preparing for the America's Cup.

In the first month of entries, RHKYC was the first club from Hong Kong to sign up, at the same time providing a milestone breakthrough at 300 clubs. Currently, over 9,000 sailors (with an average of 100 more signing up each day) are set to sail an individual Bart’s Bash race at their location with certain set requirements to meet world record criteria.

Race details are set locally by each of the 716 participating venus, but are not onerous – at a bare minimum, to meet the world record rules, the course will need to be over 1km and one must sail for more than 15 minutes.

RHKYC’s event in Victoria Harbour will involve one design boats sailing a course determined by the Race Officer on the day but adhering to the world record rules. There is no limit to the number of boats that can enter and racing starts at 1100hrs.

Each individual sailor wishing to enter the RHKYC event should sign up via the RHKYC’s Bart’s Bash microsite, where they can also donate to the Charity. In addition, owners/ skippers should e-mail sailing@rhkyc.org.hk to let the RHKYC Sailing Office know that they are intending to participate.
