Maybe the breeze was feeling a little sluggish after yesterday’s lay day. Maybe the breeze was feeling a little sluggish after yesterday’s lay day. Maybe Aeolus thought that three good days was quite enough. Whatever, Mr Windy stayed in bed this morning and was very reluctant to make an appearance at all.

Phuket King’s Cup – the Breeze is Back
All divisions were sent off on long courses to a gate at Koh Racha, Koh Aeo After a comparatively slow day yesterday, the breeze was back this morning with enough oomph to encourage the Race Officers to send all divisions off on long courses to a gate at Koh Racha, Koh Aeo (IRC 0, 1) and points in between – variations included leaving ‘buoy 9’ or Koh Hi or even just the end of the Koh Racha gate to port. Beautiful conditions mark the first day of competition between 90 keelboats and multihulls at 29th PKCR The PKCR, Asia’s legendary regatta under Royal Patronage, set sail on the opening day of its 29th running with a grand fleet of 90 keelboats and multihulls competing for one of sailing’s top trophies bestowed by His Majesty the King of Thailand. Today the 29th edition of the Phuket King’s Cup opened with 15kts of breeze, blue blue skies and a racecourse drenched in tropical sunshine. Slap on the hat and slop on some extra sunscreen. Roll up the shorts and get your knees brown. Vintage stuff indeed.

Phuket King’s Cup 2015 – Movement at the Station
December in Phuket, Thailand: what’s not to like? Would you rather be sailing here, or in cold and wintry Europe? Yesterday was the King of Thailand’s birthday, and tomorrow is the start of the regatta that celebrates that happy anniversary, the Phuket King’s Cup. 2015 is the 29th running of the event, and has yet again attracted a substantial fleet of entries for what many consider to be Asia’s premier big boat regatta.
