J-Asia Sibling Sailors Sweep Hong Kong Laser Nationals

by Marek Nostitz-Jackowski on 1 Dec 2014 (Hong Kong) Sailing Club J-Asia executed a clean sweep at this year's Hong Kong Laser Nationals, winning first and second places in the Standard Division and first in the Radial Division. J-Asia sailors also captured the top three spots in the Laser 4.7 Division.

The annual regatta was organized by the Hong Kong Laser Class Association and held November 28-30 at the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club's facility in Middle Island. A total of six races were held in a variety of wind conditions; between 14-17 knots on the first day and 5-13 knots on the second. A total of 41 boats sailed in all three fleets, making for one of the Laser Nationals seen in Hong Kong to date.

Last year's Radial Youth Winner, J-Asia's Gerald Williams, won the two-day event in the Laser Standard Division, after a hard-fought series of races. Long-time National champion and J-Asia sailor Isamu Sakai came in second. J-Asia's Riley Cameron took the top spot in the Laser Radial Division, while the Laser 4.7 Division was dominated by the Bezy brothers, Nicholas and Christopher who won first and third respectively. Gerald's younger sister Marian, came between the brothers, finishing second overall.

This is the second Hong Kong Nationals in two weeks that saw J-Asia siblings dominate. At last week's Optimist Nationals, Faolan Whyte captured top honours for the under 12 division, and sister Sorcha was named second in the under 10s.

'My sailors and their determination to work hard are what make J-Asia the successful sailing school that it is. I am proud of them and all they have accomplished this year,' said J-Asia Head Coach and Managing Director Marek Nostitz-Jackowski.
