ISAF Sailing World Championships Santander 2014 - Day 3 morning report

by Daniel Smith on 14 Sep 2014
Sweden’s Jesper Stalheim - ISAF Sailing World Championships Santander 2014 ISAF
ISAF Sailing World Championships Santander 2014 - The third day of racing at the Santander 2014 ISAF Sailing World Championships sees the Laser and Radials commence gold fleet racing, the RS:X conclude their qualification series as well as the start of 470 competition.

It will be a light wind start to the day and those conditions will move into the afternoon. The direction will be changeable but it is scheduled to stabilise as the afternoon progresses with a north easterly breeze on the cards. At 14:00 four-six knots are of breeze has been predicted and that will increase to 8-10 knots at 17:00. Thunderstorms are also a possibility in what could be a tricky day out on the water.

All of the Rio 2016 Olympic Laser spots were snapped up as the fleets split into gold, silver and bronze.

Things are looking tasty in the hunt for Laser Radial qualification. The gold fleet features 33 nations but there are only 19 Rio 2016 spots up for grabs in Santander. As well as a hunt at the front for world championship glory the competition in middle and rear of the pack will be fierce.

Olympic qualification is possible in the RS:X fleets as their fleet splits will be decided. We will bring you all of the qualification news when we get it.
