Extreme Sailing Series - GAC Pindar ready for action in Oman

by Adam Tanous on 19 Mar 2014 Seve Jarvin, skipper of GAC Pindar, is feeling in high spirits ahead of the second event of the Extreme Sailing Series in Oman this week, after winning the JJ Giltinan 18ft skiff championship (the 18ft skiff’s effective World Championship) for the sixth time earlier this month, equalling the record held by former America’s Cup skipper Iain Murray.

Following his 18ft skiff victory on board ‘Gotta Love it Seven’ in Sydney Harbour, Jarvin and his all-Aussie GAC Pindar crew, including newest recruit David Gilmour, son of legendary sailor Peter Gilmour, will now join the Extreme Sailing Series fleet in Oman. Four days of exhilarating racing will take place at an exciting new venue, the Almouj Golf Club at The Wave, Muscat, from 19 March. GAC Pindar will be looking to climb the leaderboard in Oman, after finishing eleventh at the season opener in Singapore in February. Alinghi currently lead the series.

Jarvin, one of the sailors training with Team Australia ahead of the next America’s Cup, said: 'Singapore was certainly a learning experience for GAC Pindar. It was the first time the crew had sailed together on an Extreme 40 and we found it very tough at times. However, we also learnt a lot from our first experience of Stadium Racing and we will be using this to our advantage going forward. It has been a good few weeks for me on the water and I’m feeling positive ahead of Oman.'

David Gilmour, 22, who will be making his Stadium Racing debut in Oman, added: 'I’m delighted to be joining GAC Pindar for my first Extreme Sailing Series event. 2014 is going to be an exciting year. In addition to my first taste of Extreme Sailing competition, I will also be racing on the 2014 Alpari World Match Racing Tour as a first time card holder, and have joined Team Australia ahead of the next America’s Cup.'
