Anna Tunnicliffe- Alinghi - Day 2 - Extreme Sailing Series, Nice

by Anna Tunnicliffe on 4 Oct 2014
Last race of the Day and a Win for Alinghi back in 4th position overall - Extreme sailing Series, Nice - Day 2 Lloyd Images/Extreme Sailing Series
These days, twice Rolex Sailor of the Year and Olympic Gold medalist, Anna Tunnicliffe (USA) alternates between sailing aboard Alinghi in the Extreme Sailing Series, and chasing a serious ranking in the world of CrossFit.

She reports in from Nice, France after the second day of the Extreme Sailing Series, sailing as tactician aboard Alinghi.

October 3, 2014, Nice, France

A much better day was had here in Nice on Alinghi as we picked up the most points in the fleet and moved up the leaderboard to 4th, 9 points out of first. The racing again was light and tricky, but a little more breeze than yesterday.

Last race of the Day and a Win for Alinghi back in 4th position overall

We had 7 races today. The day didn't start very well for us but we managed to turn it around quite quickly and picked it up. We ended the day with 3,6,3,4,1. It felt good to finish well, and the teamwork started to flow harmoniously. Our main focus was on getting good starts and sailing clean and the plan seemed to pay off.

The race course was tricky in that either side could work, but it all depended on where the top mark was positioned. The placement, and the time of day (sun/heat influence), meant that we couldn't ever get in a routine and were constantly switching up our plans. Still it seemed to work for us.

We have two more days of racing with conditions forecasted to be similar. The total points' spread between 1st and 11th is only 26 points, the closest it's been in a very long time. With the winds as light as they are and a double point finals' race on Sunday, everything is still wide open!

On another note, my Uncle Richard completed his challenge today for the Percy Hedley Foundation Splash Appeal. He completed 4 fifteen minute WODs and raised over £1000! He set a PR on reps, distance and weight in all of the WODs! I am so proud of him and he truly is an inspiration to all athletes! Congrats Richard! You smashed it and left it all on the floor! I am so proud to have you as my uncle!

Racing begins again tomorrow at 2pm. There will be live footage on the internet on the event website: http://www.extremesailingseries.com
