The 13th Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR) 2015 kicked off with 39 of the 40 registered yachts taking to the waters on Race Day 1 on 13 January 2015. Taking advantage of the 12 to 18 knots wind, Principal Race Officer Simon James ran two races for each class.

Oi! blew the competition away in the Racing Class, to finish first in both races ahead of the Royal Malaysian Navy boats – Zuhrah, Zuhal and Utarid.

Island Fling and Foxy Lady VI battled it out in the IRC-1 Class with Paul F. Winkelman’s Island Fling emerging overall victorious after two races.

The Malaysian crew, skippered by Vincent Chan, on Mata Hari had a good day, taking both wins ahead of the other five IRC-2 boats.

In the Sports Boats Class, the Malaysian Sailing Association (MSA) yacht led the way and finished first in Race one but had to sit out the second race.

'It’s too bad but just as we crossed the finish line in the first race, the baby shroud snapped and so we couldn’t continue racing today. It just means we’ll have to work a lot harder to catch up over the next few days,' said skipper Nur Elia Anuar, of the Malaysian national sailing team.

In the Multihull races, two Fast For you was too fast for the other three competitors, finishing second in Race one and first in Race two to take the winners prize for the day.

Sophia managed to win top honors in the Club Cruising Class while Bob McIntyre's Baveria 42 Jelita of Langkawi took the top spot among the Ocean Rovers.

The Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR) 2015 is organised by the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club (RLYC) and sanctioned by the ISAF and Malaysian Sailing Association (MSA), and supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Malaysia. The RLIR is part of the Asian Yachting Circuit.'
