2014 Tali Regatta Rounds up Cleanergy Sailing - Fantastic racing

by Rico Santos on 12 Dec 2014
Seven Hobie 16s and Seven Getaways raced at the Tali Regatta 2014 Sylvain Leichti
Blessed with blowing winds and flat water, the recently held Tali Regatta was an exciting finish for the AboitizPower Cleanergy Travelers Series 2014, organized by the Philippine Inter-Island Sailing Foundation to promote the eco-friendly sport of sailing all over the country.

With excellent racing conditions, the Tali Regatta served as early Christmas gift, giving the local fleet up to seven races just on day one—a first in the recent history of the long-running regatta series, and followed by three more races on day two. Up to 14 Hobie cats in two classes competed, with top teams racing closely for podium finishes, and a couple focusing instead on the beautiful sailing weather than their score.

But what really sets this particular event from the five or six others in the AboitizPower Cleanergy Travelers Series, is that, in the words of its chairman Monchu Garcia, 'it is the friendliest regatta in the series!'

That is because this sailing weekend brings together the Hobie 16 fleet from Taal Lake and the Hobie Getaway Squadron of Nasugbu, with their families and friends even joining in the fun.

For the first time this year, the Tali Regatta was also held in cooperation with the Punta Fuego Yacht Club, which has its own PFYC Sailing Championships every last Saturday of the month. By merging the two events, sailors saw more action on the water and get-togethers in both Punta Fuego’s Barracuda Bar (on Saturday) and at Tali, catered by Edgy Veggy (on Sunday).
