Asher and Willis 470 European Champions

by Sail-World on 15 Jun 2008
Nic Asher and Elliot Willis (GBR) flying to a World title, and have now added the 2008 European championship to their trophy cabinet Guy Nowell http://www.guynowell.com
Reigning World Champions, Nic Asher and Elliot Willis are the new 470 European Champions. A fifth place in the final Medal race was enough to take them into Gold, despite the Dutch team of Sven and Kalle Coster winning the final race. The Netherlanders took Silver and Gideon Kliger and Udi Gal of Israel the Bronze.

Overall Open event winners were the treble World Champions, Aussie pair Nathan Wilmot and Malcom Page who finished second in the Medal race.

The wind was a fierce Force 7 with much colder conditions than normal for the time of the year. The 470 reveled in the high winds, although the short and deep chop made for difficult conditions with the boats sailing low in the water.

In the Women's event, Sylvia Vogl and Carolina Flatcher of Austria are the new 470 European Champions. Third in the Medal race they finished comfortable winners overall, ahead of the Swiss pair, Emanuella Rol and Anne-Sophie Thilo who took the Silver, with Paoili Dekleva and Maucec Klare Vesna of Slovinia taking the Bronze.
